State of the Icinga
A really short introduction into the day and the current state of the Icinga project.Bernd Erk
A security focused system administrator and technical instructor, Joshua Hoffman has trained Ops staff from the West Coast to the far east in practical, efficient, and effective system management and automation. Hoffman created major portions of Red Hat’s acclaimed System Administration training program and certification exams. Icinga 2 and puppet: automated monitoring
Many larger organisations use puppet and love it’s benefits. When it comes to monitoring with Icinga, there’s a number of things that can be done to create a nearly completely self-managing icinga environment taht automatically adjusts to new machines and software in your environment.
In this talk we’ll show some of the things possible when the power of puppet is combined with the flexibility of Icinga.
Walter Heck is the technical director of OlinData. Walter has been using puppet since 2009 and he’s among many other things a puppetlabs certified trainer since 2012. Walter has spoken at many conferences worldwide and loves sharing knowledge.
Through working with many of the world’s largest enterprises across different continents Walter has gained a unique insight in the needs and wants of enterprises with regards to infrastructure, DevOps and everything surrounding those topics.
Icinga 2 – Apify them all
Fetch status information, trigger actions, receive events, manage configuration files, and even – modify and create objects purely at run-time. This talk will give insights into the current development of 2.5, explain how the REST API is designed and showcase several use cases in live demos. Of course there’s also space for feedback and hacking together during Icinga Camp.
Michael has been an Icinga core developer for more than 7 years. He is currently leading the Icinga 2 development together with Gunnar. In addition to the exciting core architecture work he likes to play with Vagrant. Docker and Dashing. You’ll also find him active over at monitoring-portal.org, most recently as administrator too. In his spare time Michael loves to build LEGO models and enjoys Nuremberg with his Austrian dialect.Michael Friedrich
The Importance of IAC
Do you like manually configuring 300 nodes? How about 3000? Are you sure the node you just decomissioned will be removed from your monitoring platform? Do you believe in auto detection ? Magic? Do you like clicking on UI’s? Let me introduce you to the world of Infrastructure as Code and why it matters for monitoring.
Kris Buytaert is a long time linux and open source consultant. He’s one of the instigators of the devops movement, currently working for Inuits. He is frequently speaking at or organizing different international conferences and has written about the same subjects in different books, papers and articles. He spends most of his time working on bridging the gap between developers and operations with a strong focus on high availability, scalability, virtualization and large infrastructure management projects hence trying to build infrastructures that can survive the 10th floor test, better known today as the cloud while actively promoting the devops idea!Kris Buytaert
Graphing with Icinga, Graphite and Grafana
Icinga brings performance data since ever then. With Icinga2 a gate has been opened to ship those data to a reliable and scalable recipient: Graphite.
In my talk I will explain how the Graphite feature in Icinga2 works and how we can benefit from the automatically collected performance data of most plugins. By showing concrete examples I will bring you closer to the most important features of Grafana and the idea of visualizing data.
Blerim is a Senior Systems Engineer at NETWAYS. He creates data center solutions based on Open Source products such as Icinga (2), Graphite and a lot of other stuff.Blerim Sheqa
Icinga 2 and Icinga Web 2 make a perfect couple. With the Icinga Director we are going to present a bleeding edge configuration tool for an even more pleasant workflow. Director tries to target two main audiences. Those with the desire to completely automate their datacenter and those who wish to get a comfortable frontend allowing them to delegate most of their daily work. What makes Icinga Director so special is the fact that it tries to target both of them at once.
Complete audit of every single change? Custom-tailored access? Provide a self-service web frontend without security concerns? Rollback at any time, central control for distributed Icinga Clusters? Import data from multiple CMDBs? Puppet or similar tools? Even in it’s very first release the Director captives with an impressive feature set. This talk will give a short profound introduction to this powerful new tool.
Icinga Web 2 – 2.3.0
This talk will demo Web 2’s hot stuff like its API, CLI, simple configuration, intuitive design and integration with Icinga 2. Last but not least, we share future prospects of Web 2 and upcoming modules for enhancing your monitoring and DevOps stack.Eric Lippmann
Monitoring – When to start
In this talk we will discuss the topic of when it is best to start monitoring your products. Open source monitoring and cloud architecture make starting your monitoring that much easier and cheaper then most people think or are aware of. We will talk about why and when you may want to start monitoring, talk about the common mistakes present in many places in the industry, and we will discuss why it needs to change, and how to change it. And we will show case the ways that Icinga can help you adopt early monitoring and implementation in your work place.

Using Ansible to Deploy Icinga2
This presentation demonstrates how to use Ansible to deploy Icinga2 in a distributed manner. The presentation demonstrates how to install a virtual machines, and to install a distributed ha master system. It will also show how to install NRPE and/or NSCA agents on the nodes. The system can be used to start a new deployment or can be used to migrate to Icinga 2.
