This talk will provide an update on the current state of Icinga 2 Core, the developments made since its stable release in June 2014 and preview the development roadmap (2.2 and beyond).
We will share tips on how to get the most out of the new dynamic configuration language, offer best practice examples and look at the new features introduced with Icinga 2, such as the Graphite backend for real time monitoring. The talk will also show how Icinga 2 takes distributed monitoring into a new era, with its cluster feature that enables load balanced, high availability clusters to be deployed out-of-the-box.

A gentle introduction to Puppet and setting up your monitoring platform with Puppet. This talk will be documenting an example setup deploying Icinga with puppet, monitoring some services with some lessons learned along the way.
Kris Buytaert is a long time Linux and Open Source Consultant. He’s one of the instigators of the devops movement, currently working for Inuits. Kris is the co-author of “Virtualization with Xen”, used to be the maintainer of the openMosix HOWTO and author of different technical publications. He speaks frequently at, or organizes different international conferences.
He spends most of his time working on Linux clustering (both high availability, scalability and HPC), virtualization and large infrastructure management projects, hence trying to build infrastructures that can survive the 10th floor test, better known today as the cloud while actively promoting the devops idea! Icinga Web 2 is the upcoming next generation web interface for Icinga. This talk will explain the motivation behind Icinga Web 2, demo its simple, intuitive design features as well as the powerful CLI. We’ll show how to install and configure Icinga Web 2, and work with the new interface on multiple devices.

In this talk Sam Kottler of DigitalOcean will give a brief introduction to the company and its monitoring systems. He’ll talk about global distribution of monitoring across their 9 data centers and integration into tools like Hubot and PagerDuty. The last bit of the talk will focus on how Icinga fits into the future of their monitoring stack.
Sam Kottler is a software engineer at Digital Ocean where he works on the core automation and monitoring systems for their public cloud, which hosts millions of individual instances. Before Digital Ocean he worked at Red Hat in the systems management group where he designed and implemented open source software, maintained Puppet, and served as a technical adviser to the company’s on-boarding of the CentOS project. He’s a committer to several open source projects, including Icinga, monitoring-plugins, Puppet, Boxen, and Bundler and is on the ruby-core security team. Sam Kottler
Icinga Web 2 is lightweight, more powerful and faster than its predecessor. But the fun is just getting started. To make life easier for module writers, we’ve kept most of our development work under the radar. And our now first sample modules are waiting, ready to go.
Integrate Puppet and Foreman, run JMX trees with Jolokia, visualise every single network switch port showing current throughput, STP state, VLANs and more on a single page. Want an inventory for your certificates? SSH host keys? Tracking changes? Want to to link tickets to your monitoring or integrate them completely?

“System Datebase” (SysDB, https://sysdb.io/) is an Open Source daemon which aggregates system management and inventory information and stores them in a central, graph-like database. All information is (continuously) retrieved from other hardware or software systems (inventory services, monitoring services, etc. like Icinga, Puppet, collectd) and may be queried through a generic interface. SysDB focuses on meta-data like host-attributes, services and their attributes, and lists of available metrics and provides means to query data from back-end data-stores (e.g. time-series data). This way, all important information about your systems is accessible from a central location allowing for use-cases such as central dashboards, cross-link monitoring or inventory information, identify missing pieces in your system configuration, advanced monitoring configuration, and much more.
This talk provides an overview over SysDB and its features as well as sample use-cases. The project is still in an early development stage but already usable. The talk also covers future directions and further integration with existing services.
Sebastian ’tokkee’ Harl is engaged in Linux and Open Source software for many years. Besides actively working on projects like Debian (www.debian.org), collectd (www.collectd.org), and RRDtool (oss.oetiker.ch/rrdtool), he actively supports various Open Source events (e.g., FrOSCon, www.froscon.org, Grazer Linuxtage, linuxtage.at) by staffing booths and giving talks. Icinga is over five years old now and a lot happened until today. 2014 is a big year for Icinga and in addition to the release of Icinga 2, Icinga Web 2 is on the horizon.
But we will not get tired and there is a lot to come. This talk will give a brief introduction into the Icinga community, the current software architecture and the latest news about the project. Bernd Erk
